About The Author
MARK TUOHY
A retired part-time writer whose life has taken him from driving and office work to teaching technical English in Peru and, later, sixteen years with Libraries NI. A long-time Belfast resident, he previously wrote Belfast Celtic and Shoot Belfast. Inspired by a creative mother and a life shaped by family, travel, and football, he now writes with warmth, wit, and a deep affection for ordinary lives.
WRITING LIFE
His years with Libraries NI strengthened his love of books, while his earlier work in teaching and other fields gave him a strong sense of character, dialogue, and everyday detail. That blend of experience helps shape writing that feels grounded, observant, and human.
EARLIER WORK
Before Walk the Ball, Mark wrote Belfast Celtic, a book about a famous Northern Irish football team published by Blackstaff Press in 1978. He also wrote Shoot Belfast, a photography guide produced by the N.I. Arts Council and distributed free of charge to workshops and studios.
PERSONAL BACKGROUND
Mark’s creative outlook was encouraged by his mother, who was both a writer and a painter. He is married and has three children and two grandchildren. Now retired, he has more time to focus on stories that reflect humor, memory, friendship, and the small moments that shape a life.
